NORM’S 10th. CHANCE………………...
Heart Transplant No 53 reaches 10 years.
Norm Smith
who had his heart transplant 10 years ago on the 2nd of August 1990
celebrated the milestone with an afternoon tea. With 70 plus family,
neighbours and friends from various clubs and the like, the Parkhill
Primary School hall was hired for this important event. Taking out the
population figures and the number of transplants still able to celebrate
a ten year anniversary it is a
one in 346,154
chance that a
person would experience this type of function. Norm is still very active
playing lawn bowls, keeping the local primary school in
good
condition, doing all the little maintenance jobs around the school. Also
carrying out volunteer work at the Alfred hospital one morning a week.
Lawn Bowls at the Burwood Bowls club and at various other bowls clubs
occupies up to five afternoons in a week.
The proceeds from the sale of his book "A Heart is Better than a Spade",
that is on sale in three areas at the Alfred, has now raised $672.00 for
the Heart/Lung Family Trust.
The
photograph shows Norm, on the left, with Richard Rowlands, a
seven
year transplant, at the 10 year celebration.( Richard also doubles as
Santa Claus
– maybe you chanced
to see his sleigh at our barbeque recently?)
