Getting to the Hospital - Public Transport

  • Trains: Prahran railway station is only a short stroll along Greville St from The Alfred
  • Buses: Bus routes from the city 216,219 and 220 will take passengers to The Alfred.
  • Trams: From Swanston Street City. All trams except nos. 8 and 1 travel along St Kilda Rd. Alight at the corner of St Kilda and Commercial Roads. Tram no 72   Entrance of The Alfred.

Taxi - There is a taxi rank on Commercial Road, directly outside The Alfred. A phone booking service is available in the foyer at the main entrance to the Hospital.

All paid visitor parking at The Alfred precinct is located in the multilevel car park at the Alfred Centre.

The car park is underground on two split levels and is adjacent/under The Alfred Centre.

The maximum height clearance for the car park is 2.1 metres.

Operating hours are 6.00am to 10.30pm 7 days per week, 365 days per year  

Entry. The visitor car park is accessible from Centre Lane, an internal roadway, which runs off Commercial Road and is located between The Alfred Centre & The Burnet Tower. Traffic approaching along Commercial Road, from either direction, can turn into Centre Lane.

Exit. When exiting Centre Lane, traffic may only turn left into Commercial Road. Vehicles can then use the dedicated U-turn zone, which is in front of the main entrance to The Alfred, if they wish to head east.

Patient Pick Up and Drop Off
There are two patient pick up and drop off zones at The Alfred. One is situated at the main entrance to Hospital (Commercial Road) and the other is at the front entrance to The Alfred Centre (Centre Lane). These zones will provide easy access for visitors and patients.

Parking for people with disabilities

There are three options available for Disabled Permit Holders:

  • free parking around the site (click here for the map) - which are time limited to two hours and

  • ticket meter parking at concession rates in the Centre Block Disabled Car Park off Alfred Lane and 

  • parking in the visitor car park - standard fees apply.

How do I pay?

Parking can be paid for in three (3) ways.

Automated pay station

You can pay for parking using the automated pay stations in the car park.

Supervised booth

Upon exiting the car park, visitors can pay using the supervised booth.

# If you are entitled to receive discounted car parking, please present your pension or healthcare card upon exiting the car park to the car parking attendant.
