Online Discussion Group
We have incorporated an online
discussion group into our web site. Our Heart and Lung Transplant
Patients and also other family members and interested parties may join
the group.
The purpose of the discussion group is as a forum for patients from the
various Heart and Lung Transplant Units around Australia and New
Zealand, to communicate with one another for the purpose of
support during the journey.
The group is monitored to keep you on track and to do a bit of Myth Busting when necessary. The group is a wonderful way to stay in touch with others on the waiting lists and also to contact and ask questions of post transplant recipients.
To join the discussion group,
follow the link at the right of this page. When you get to the
group there is a 'Join Group' link to click on. Fill in the
details and you are up and away. Joining the group is completely free.
The group work on an E-mail system. You can, however, use Video contact
between two or more people for those of you who have set up 'Skype', the
free video chat provider.
Skype Voice & Video
Skype is the free computer to computer instant video system. It is the same as talking on the phone but you see who you are talking to. It can be used to speak to people world wide.
If you would like to speak to another member in this group they must also have Skype set up on their computer. You will have to set up the call by contacting them first by e-mail.
A reasonable broadband connection is required. If you have 500 you will be able to see Video OK. If you have 250 then you will only be able to talk without video.
To Set Up Skype
Go
to http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/windows/
and download the software, at no cost. Follow their instructions, it is
not very complicated.
You will Need
1 - A Skype Username which you make up.
2 - Your e-mail address
3 - A video cam with built in microphone
Headphones are handy but not essential
To set up and use Skype at anytime, from computer to computer, It is all free. You can speak for as long as you like.
